A red 1968 Pontiac GTO believed stolen was pursued by York County police from Saco to West Kennebunk at speeds over 100 mph. The vehicle was found abandoned with occupants fled into woods after a noon stop on Thompson Road. One man, 18 year old John Palmer, was forced to drive the car from Sanford to Jagger Mill Road.
A visitor admitted giving a 16 year old inmate cigarettes and matches that started a fire in a padded cell at the Maury County Jail in Columbia Tennessee. Andrew Zimmer, 16, faces arson charges and up to 42 counts of manslaughter may follow as officials investigate the blaze. Deputy Sheriff James Duke described the charred cell.
