Ogunquit begins first year of summer police training
Ogunquit and neighboring coastal towns including York Wells Old Orchard Beach and Kennebunkport run a two week training course for summer officers for the first time. Chief William Hancock Jr says the program improves readiness and costs about 18 per officer with sessions on communications first aid crowd control and firearms training though Ogunquit officers cannot carry firearms yet. About 45 officers participate with planners David Dix Alberick Martin Richard Lamb and Frederic Greaves coordinating the schedule.

Locust Grove Search For Alleged Girl Scout Killer Hart
Hundreds of unarmed volunteers comb a two mile square brush area in Locust Grove Oklahoma hoping to find Gene Leroy Hart 33 believed to be the sex slayer of three Girl Scouts aged under 11 whose bodies were found near their tent. Hart escaped from prison about four years ago and is already serving 40 to 140 years for kidnapping and rape.

York County Athletic Club places third at junior Olympic wrestling
The York County Athletic Club took third nationally in the Elite Greco-Roman division at the National Junior Olympic Wrestling Tournament in Murfreesboro Tennessee. Bob Eon of Alfred won the 154 pound Greco-Roman title while Jayson Allain and Ray Dube earned third place in their weight classes. The team qualified three wrestlers for possible berths on a national team headed to Iran this summer.
