Wood Island Lighthouse celebrates 10 years of FOWL stewardship

Biddeford area history group FOWL or American Lighthouse Foundation chapter marks a decade of care for Wood Island Lighthouse and keeper’s house off Biddeford Pool. Renovations span the 1839 tower to the 1906 keeper’s house with interior work planned this fall aided by Maine Historic Preservation Commission while tours educate the public and local students.

Pet show draws families at Wells Public Library

The Wells Public Library hosted its annual pet show last Thursday July 25 drawing families and many four legged participants. Organizers described a lively scene with cheerful pets, community turnout, and light chaos that did not dampen the event’s enjoyment.

19th Annual Pet Parade Delighted Town Despite Rain

Assistant Library Director Devin Burritt said rain forced a hurried indoor move for the outdoor event. Twenty one children nine adults and nine pets attended, with dogs cats rabbits and a dwarf hamster among the participants. Awards were given for quirky categories including best palate for the rabbit that eats Tabasco sauce.

Sanford dog park cleanup moves forward

Senior Staff Writer reports Sanford plans for the citys first dog park. Organizers prep the land with a cleanup set for Aug 18, aiming to attract volunteers and landscapers. Edith Lacroix, a park organizer and Sanford Junior High teacher, leads the effort amid a growing committee clearing brush on the 1.1 acre site.

Runaway Bride event raises funds for health care education fund

Biddeford hosts The Wedding of the Runaway Bride at North Dam Mill on August 17 from 4 to 7 pm. Tickets cost 35 dollars each or 250 dollars for a table of ten, with proceeds benefiting the Madelyn Bergen Belliveau Fund to fund education for home health care nurses pursuing advanced certifications. The event, conceived by Belliveau and Mia Millefoglie of HomeHealth Visiting, blends music, food, dancing, and a silent auction of wedding-themed items to support chronically ill patients under the agency’s care.
