Local girl runs roadside pumpkin stand in busy intersection

Nine year old Sarah Church and friends set up a pumpkin and gourds stand on a grass island at Walker Street and Lee Road aided by 10 year olds Dave Hardy and Tommy Weschler. They sold pumpkins at 75 cents and gourds at 50 cents as a Greyhound tour bus cruised by. Sarah left to fetch more pumpkins while Tommy’s German Shepherd Liesel guarded the profits. Nearby, Nancy Woodin and Martha Brunau joined the Pittsfield Jehovahs Witnesses at the Northeastern New York Watch Tower Convention in Troy, NY, with Woodin working in the public relations office.
