Substitute Wood For Concrete in Planning Patio
When building a new house consider a wood deck instead of a concrete patio. Have the builder prep the area, ensure a 14 by 15 foot minimum, and lay individual three foot squares from Douglas fir or cedar 2 by 4 boards. Leave some squares blank for planting pits or a sandbox. Use 2 by 4 joists, space deck planks eighth inch apart for rain runoff, and apply pressure treated lumber with a three inch base of sand and gravel to prevent weeds.
