Proposed City Zoning Ordinance Faces Rugged Battle
The fate of the zoning ordinance is in the City Council as it faces strong opposition over garden apartment zones nine of which allow 214 story units. Melbourne Road and Osceola Street are earmarked for low or mixed income housing, with residents pressing council opposition. Planning Board approved after five hearings, but the council may split the map into smaller units for ward hearings, delaying action into 1970. Meanwhile GE contract talks loom, with Local 255's Litano saying no strike machinery yet and mid October offer anticipated before October 26 expiry.
