Four Young Men Enlist in Navy From Berkshire Area
Four young men from Fitts Field and Lenox have enlisted in the U S Navy and are in recruit training at Great Lakes. Richard E. Plankey Jr., George E. Berne, Anthony C. Stracuzzi, and Arnold L. Halley are the enlistees. Berne and Stracuzzi are Pittsfield and Lenox high school graduates respectively. Two Berkshire Medical Center licensed practical nurses will attend the Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses annual convention in Chicago from Sept. 28 to Oct. 3.

TB Association To Confer on Air Pollution
The Hampden Berkshire tuberculosis and respiratory disease association will sponsor a one day conference on air pollution on Tuesday October 14 at the Valley Steak House in Springfield. Keynote speaker Dr Katherine B Sturgis a member of the National Air Conservation Commission and chief editor of the Archives of Environmental Health for the AMA will headline. Planning assistance comes from Mrs Bernard H Flood Lenox and James C Hart Lee with additional experts on the Clean Air Act and state regional control programs.

Paul E. Decker of 8013 Highview Drive serves in the Great Lakes recruit training command colors guard at Naval Training Center Great Lakes. He joined pregame activities for the Chicago September 12 Armed Forces benefit football game, where over 1,060 Chicago area servicemen were featured. Cadet Paul M. Augenstein of 100 Richard Drive is among more than 960 cadets entering their sophomore year at the U.S. Air Force Academy after a six week summer training program across the country near Rampart Range and Ft. Carson. He will be commissioned as a second lieutenant with a B.S. degree upon graduation, and is a 1968 Pittsfield High School graduate and soccer letterman and track captain.
