Zoning Map Hearing Draws Large Opposition in Pittsfield

About 200 residents packed the Pittsfield Planning Board hearing opposing garden apartment zones on Osceola Street and Melbourne Road as part of a citywide zoning revision. The Central Labor Council supports 136 mixed income units on Melbourne Road, while opponents led by the Pomeroy Heights Betterment Association argued multifamily housing harms property values and should be sited in the core city. Basil Petricca endorsed the ordinance for business groups, and the board aims to adopt the map next week before sending it to the City Council which has previously defeated a rezoning for the Labor Council site.
