California Fires Continue Across Ten Counties

More than 100 inmates from prison conservation camps assisted in firefighting as 3,400 personnel battled blazes across Humboldt, Mendocino, Yolo, Colusa, Napa, Sonoma, Placer, Amador, Calaveras, and Marin. In Chileno Valley on the Marin Sonoma line, two homes and about 150 barns burned as fires scorched 8,000 acres. Limited rainfall in six months and very low humidity kept fire danger extreme near Vacaville, where homes in Green Valley were saved by hose water while others in Solano County were destroyed. Northern Vacaville residents were evacuated as damage surpassed $500,000. The first major fire began north of Vacaville Thursday with undetermined origin.
