Massachusetts Legislature Near Adjournment After Key Bills Passed
Boston AP Massachusetts lawmakers moved toward adjournment after a night session cleared major hurdles by approving a 36.4 million dollar capital outlay construction bill in both chambers. A four million dollar general pay raise for state employees was proposed for next March, with higher boosts for University of Massachusetts faculty and technical school teachers. The cost is funded by anticipated surpluses and savings, but would require 12 to 14 million more in the next fiscal year. The Milk Control Board funding was approved without earlier provisions granting the board power to set minimum milk prices.
