King Urges Viet Peace Plan Including Red China U.N. Seat
Nobel laureate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr proposed a four point program to UN Ambassador Arthur Goldberg for ending the Viet Nam war. He urged U.S. readiness to negotiate with the Viet Cong, a pause in bombing North Viet Nam, and Red China’s admission to the United Nations, pledging to write letters to Ho Chi Minh and leaders in China and the Soviet Union within 100 days. He said he would pursue peace efforts as an individual and as a Christian minister. Goldberg later said the U.S. position had been presented and that Washington remains open to unconditional negotiations for peace, while North Viet Nam has not responded.
