GREAT BARRINGTON The Tri Town Regional School Committee will meet state Health Board officials at the Regional School site on Route 7 Monday for soil and percolation tests on a triangular section of land the board has optioned in addition to the originally planned acre plot. Preliminary borings suggest the possibility the property may serve as a natural waste drainage area. if so the costly mechanical disposal system for the 90 acre site may not be needed. The committee met with architects to discuss early planning for a new high school and stressed the building should serve the entire community with usage from adults to preschoolers.
Police search for clues after two blasts in Montville and near Groton Reservoir. One blast damaged a rowboat and garage at Det. Louis Leikowski’s Montville home. a nearby house windows were shattered. A second blast damaged a bridge near Groton Reservoir with two sticks of dynamite. Hartford schools propose 1.8 million for disadvantaged children across 17 districts funded largely by General Assembly funds. no city cost. Constitutional Convention delegates attend class to discuss governance reforms including stronger governor powers and reform of state government to handle metropolitan growth.
Hinsdale Massachusetts residents will attend an open house at the Eastern Berkshire Welfare District’s new South Street office on Sunday September 19 from 2 to 3 pm. Formed in 1951 by Hinsdale Peru Becket Washington and Chester joined later. The new 20 by 40 foot structure replaces the former Frissell Block office and houses a directors office social workers office conference room and clerical space. The district now employs five staff including a director Mrs Josephine Hames of Becket.
Egremont was the sole Berkshire County town named among 18 winners in the state Selectmen's Association annual town report contest. It captured third prize in Class 6 for towns under 1,000 population. Judges included Walter E. Lawrence Foster Spencer Charles Hughes and William G. O'Hare Jr.

Central School reports a record 93 pupils enrolled with 15 in first grade and 13 in second, up from last year’s 80s. Renovations included refinished wood trim, bathroom and corridor upgrades, and touch up work in classrooms. School Committee to meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the school.

STOCKBRIDGE Citizens Hall committee to hold a public hearing Wednesday at 8 p m in Procter Hall to discuss future uses for Interlaken building and to review its condition before a final report at February town meeting.
Adam W. Becker of Valatie Road has been named finance chairman for the Citizens for Drumm Committee and will assist chairman John Williams Sr. in coordinating the campaign of Assemblyman Willard C. Drumm in the Republican primary for the new fifth Assembly District. Contributions may be sent to Cine for Drumm, Box G, Chatham. Firemen's auction rescheduled to Oct 2 and School Committee starts year at Richmond Consolidated School.
Officers and directors met at president Charles E. Cook's home to approve bills from the 110th fair. Tentative plans were discussed for the October 13 annual meeting. A nominating committee including J Edgar Bardin of Dalton W Russell Ferris and Cecil E Alderman was appointed to draft a slate of officers.
Warrant is posted for a special town meeting in Middlefield to be held Thursday evening. Voters will consider four articles including validating prior actions and authorizing a transfer of 2500 from machinery earnings to machinery expense, plus other business.
