Woman Reporter Witnesses SAC B52 Raid Over Vietnam
UPI correspondent Elizabeth Halstead became the first reporter to witness a Strategic Air Command B52 bombing mission over South Vietnam. From a C47 escort near Saigon, she watched waves of bombers strike the area north of Saigon in Bint Duong Province, with follow-up fighter-bombers and Skyraiders. The mission aimed to strike Viet Cong tunnels and jungle targets, while Vietnamese troops moved in later to mop up the area.
