Blacks Reject Chicago Jobs Plan
A civil rights coalition rejected a joint plan by the Chicago Building Trades Council and Building Construction Employers Association to open thousands of construction jobs to Negro workers. The coalition said it would not be in control and walked out, risking renewed picketing of projects. The proposal offered immediate 1000 jobs for qualified Negro journeymen plus training, aiming for employment equity in five years. Reverend T. G. Vivian said the plan did not meet coalition demands and declined to comment further.
