New Mass Set for Catholics in 1970
The Catholic Mass will be updated in 1970 with a simplified form and entirely new prayers for the first time in 400 years. Pope Paul VI authorized the changes. bishops from the United States and 11 other English speaking countries prepared an English translation. The new Mass, to begin during Lent, rearranges structure and Scripture texts and includes a revised Confiteor. Also: Beverly, Mass. Long-haired student Mark Gentley sued school officials but the suit was dropped after suspension ended.
