Nature Hour Draws Crowd Despite Rain
In spite of a heavy rain, a capacity crowd of boys and girls attended the Berkshire Museum nature hour on Saturday. After films and a leaf preservation demo, many joined the optional quiz with Frederic Dirsch of North winning the junior high division by one point at 97 percent. Allen Mare and others from Dawes, Ingremont, Pomeroy and South schools also excelled while several older pupils earned season-score points. A second program is planned for Saturday. Unemployment claims in Central and Southern Berkshire County rose 41 last week to 610, with 31 new job placements and new equipment completed to start local payment of claims. Current weekly checks will shift from Boston to be mailed locally starting Monday.
