Swiss election confirms right of center government
Switzerland’s right-of-center coalition appears to extend its four year rule after general elections. Women voted for the first time but a Communist bid to nominate the first woman parliament candidate failed. In the National Council 102 of 196 seats show minimal change with Catholic Conservatives losing one seat to the Peasants and Artisans Party. Communist seats shift slightly but retain about 2.2 percent of the vote. In Vaud, Mrs Mieville, a 38 year old Lausanne dentist, was defeated by three male opponents.
