Vatican Council votes to modernize Catholic rites

Vatican Seventy council voted qualified approval to changes in sacraments including baptism penance and matrimony allowing modern languages and renaming anointing of the sick. Only about 8 percent of 2214 prelates opposed the chapter. full approval required a two thirds majority which was not reached. The chapter now goes to the liturgy commission for further work and amendments.

Atrocity claims amid desert terror duel in Algeria Morocco clash

Reporters saw charred desert tents and burned belongings after fighting where Algerians claimed to kill 10 Moroccans and wound 20, with a Moroccan soldier allegedly burned alive under a rock. Four Chevrolet trucks lay ruined as a general urged photo evidence, though verification of atrocity stories remained impossible.

Harassment Continues in West Berlin

BERLIN (UPI) American military police blocked a Russian military car in West Berlin for 20 minutes in retaliation for East German harassment of US sedans in East Berlin. A convoy of 24 soldiers in 12 trucks traveled from the West through East Germany to demonstrate Western access rights with quick Russian checkpoints and no repeat of last week’s convoy holdup. Eyewitnesses said two American MI officers blocked the Russian vehicle at Askanischer Platz to prevent its departure, after which the car was allowed to proceed.

Two Escape From Jail In Boston

Two inmates, including a dangerous bank robber, escaped Charles Street jail in Boston at gunpoint with 45 caliber pistols. FBI agents, police, and state troopers hunted Gleason and Hurd across the city and nearby suburbs after an attempted shooting during the escape.
