Ike Called No Real Commander by British Wartime Marshal
Toronto AP Field Marshal Alanbrooke, wartime British chief of staff, reaffirms his 1944 view that Eisenhower had absolutely no strategic outlook yet credited him with coalition-building. In new diary volume Triumph in the West he recalls May 1944 cross channel plans and notes Ike relied on aides like Bedell Smith. He calls Ike a showman not a true commander despite abilities.
