Mohole Plan Delayed by Budget Cuts in Mohole Project
Washington reports a major setback for the Mohole project as the House Appropriations Committee trims 266 million from the National Science Foundation budget, delaying completion by at least a year and potentially increasing costs. The drill aims to reach 1800 miles into the mantle from oceanic crust, via a platform 73 feet above water. Named after Andrija Mohorovicic, the project probes the crust mantle boundary.
