County Hit By Gales
High winds with gusts to 40 mph swept the Berkshires over the weekend ripping down dead limbs and disrupting electrical service. Forester Lyle V. Lathrop reports his forestry crew answered more than six emergency calls while the Fire Department handled a limb threat on West Housatonic Street near Gale Avenue. Rainfall totaled 4.33 inches for September, about .17 inches below normal, with cold conditions to ease after two days then a slight warming by Thursday. Also noted is a Pittsfield native William T. Archey being named payroll accounting manager for New England Telephone Co. in Maine, a St. Joseph's High School graduate and Providence College alumnus.
