Zoning Board grants variance for sporting goods store
Great Barrington residents reported the Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved Ernest Beckwith and David Hammer to build a sporting goods store on Beckwiths Lake Buel Road property in an acre residential district. The decision, though argued legally questionable, follows a hearing with supporters noting regional fishing benefits. Abutters Conan Caron and his wife objected, saying it would lower property values. Beckwith plans a 15 by 200 foot building selling fishing tackle ammunition guns and perhaps clothing, with construction plans to be finalized before a building permit.
