GE Unions Seek 30 Month Pact With May Expiration

The International Union of Electrical Workers and the United Electrical Workers Union press for 30 month contracts expiring May 1, 1972. They aim to shift leverage by moving contract end dates to May, with wage demands discussed as cents per hour across the board plus increases for skilled workers. GE negotiators expected a company offer next week or by October 13, as unions coordinate across AFL-CIO locals and seek to align strategy amid ongoing talks in New York.

Permit Withdrawal Sought Over Onola Apartments Plan

Neighbors in the Onola Lake area urge the Zoning Appeals Board to rescind a building permit for an eight unit apartment house. The petition, signed by Wilfred J. Lamoureux and about 60 residents, argues the project conflicts with the lake neighborhood’s single family character. The board seeks a legal ruling on jurisdiction before meeting at City Hall. Building Inspector Archille E. Lamoureux issued the permit for J. Charles Alessiо in late August after Planning Board approval of access. The site lies off Peck's Road north of Lakeway Drive on land once an ice house, now zoned for commercial use. Mayor Butler announces new anti-littering signs funded by the state.
