Mrs Shirl Bartini of Shirl Toolin Bartini told the Planning Board a client may buy the 87 year old Oakwood Inn and convert it to garden apartments though the R 1 A district currently bans multi family housing. Board requests detailed alteration plans and a special permit application. The Oakwood Inn on Brainard Avenue, built in 1882 by Edwin D Brainard, has a 31 room main inn plus two cottages on four acres. Dr Philip Schiffman of North Egremont bought the property in June from the Van Cameriks, who had acquired it in 1955 from Adolf Wendt.

Raise in Rates Foreseen For Plunkett Hospital
Adams plans a rate rise at Plunkett Memorial Hospital to align with Berkshire Center and nurses’ organization plans. Hospital will likely raise semiprivate and private room rates, while maternity services remain uncertain. Officials cite budget gaps, personnel issues, and a delayed intensive care unit project as factors. The town’s annual 50,000 appropriation is exhausted, delaying action until March.
