NAHB Official Sees 1965 Housing Act Boosting Starts
Chicago based NAHB leader Larry Blackmon forecast a modest rise in housing starts for 1965 aided by the 1965 Housing Act. He predicted about 1.55 million units, near 1964, with single family gains and multifamily declines, citing economic and Viet Nam concerns but optimistic over final impact and private financing role. He defended private builders against fears of government takeover and urged rent-supplement program as a tool to expand housing for low income families.
