Visiting Nurses Loan Closet Stocked With Wheelchairs

Pittsfield Visiting Nurse Association operates a large loan closet in the Red Feather House at 54 Wendell Ave. for medical appliances loaned free to those in need. The stock, built over 30 years, includes wheelchairs, beds, crutches, walkers, bed blocks, hydraulic lifts, and other items. Donations come after use or recovery, with long-standing items like a 40-year-old wooden wheelchair valued for head support. Community groups regularly replenish supplies such as incontinent bed pads, made from old sheets and newspaper, with over 50 kept on hand.
