City Council Adopts Orders For $39050 In Appropriations
The City Council approved last night financial orders from the mayor totaling 39050. The largest item was 200 for the Veterans Services Department for veterans benefits. Also approved were 19000 to pay group life and Blue Cross Blue Shield premiums for the rest of the year. Handerck said funds should cover the year and cited rising hospitalization costs and a record November veterans benefits caseload due to lack of construction. An additional 50 was approved for the Administrative Services travel account to fund a Boston trip for civil service discussions. Councilman Quadrozzi opposed the travel item, noting two city employees would no longer be funded to attend at city expense. Transfers of 2325 were approved within Police and Health funds, plus adjustments to fire alarm, police signal systems, and the Planning Board. Court judgments for Daniel Gall Sr, 475, Sophia Charon, 100, and Howard W. Hamm, 3044.50 were honored, with other personal injury and small claims totaling several amounts approved. Farrell was granted a license to store 2000 gallons of paint and solvents at 77 Summer St after relocating from 81 Clapp Ave. Public hearings set for Dec 10 on Western Massachusetts Theaters license for open air parking and on a 18500 gallon fuel storage license at 339 Tytler St.
