Kennedy to Review Decision on Springfield Armory Closure
Senator Edward Kennedy pledged a personal review of the Defense Department’s plan to close the 171 year old Springfield Armory. He spoke to about 700 workers at American Legion Post 430 after meeting with Defense Secretary McNamara who had already ordered a reexamination. Mayor Ryan accused the action of masking policy changes and urged a fair reconsideration with input from Congress and the White House.
