Indirect Finesse Leads to Safe Contract in Bridge

Sheinwold explains an indirect finesse in clubs that guarantees the contract. With West’s lead and a trump shift, South should draw two rounds of trumps and then lead a low club from dummy. If East takes the king, South will later gain the jack of clubs and discard diamonds, ensuring no losing club. If West holds the king of clubs, the outcome depends on the diamond finesse. The dealer’s hand shows Spades AKJ9, Hearts 63, Diamonds KB87, Clubs 8 7 5 7 3, and the suggested action is to pass with four cards in the suit.
