Phone Company Gets Permit For Addition
STOCKBRIDGE The Selectmen approved a $50,000 building permit for a new automatic dial telephone exchange addition by the New England Telephone Co on Pine Street. Architects are Alderman & MacNeish of Springfield. The addition will nearly double the size and blend with the existing building. Also approved was a permit for Francis L. Pilling to add to his home on East Main. Foster L. Robertson’s porch addition request on Mahkeenac Road was denied due to side-lot nonconformity, as both existing house and proposed addition would be within 10 feet of the side line, below the required 10 feet in a residence recreational area. Robertson may appeal to the Board of Appeals. Other business included Berkshire Gas Co. permission to repair a gas leak on Stockbridge-Lee Road in front of Ray mond R. Brinker’s home, with Highway Supt. Karl G. Cooper’s approval. Cemetery Supt. Joseph T. McCormick was authorized to spend about $235 on ladders and small purchases, toward a remaining budget of roughly $2,300.
