Moon Dust Layer Eyed As Soft Landing Barrier
Canadian scientist Dr. Anthony R. Barringer said the Soviet lunar soft landing likely failed due to not accounting for dust depth on the moon. He noted radar beams may have penetrated dust, delaying retro rocket firings, and his firm develops sensors for Apollo missions to measure lunar vapors and crust depth. Barringer also proposed using these instruments to locate underground water.
