Thant appeals for Cyprus peacekeeping donations
UN secretary general U Thant urged voluntary funds to cover a 7.3 million deficit in the Cyprus peacekeeping operation. He warned that without pledges the UN might have to inform Security Council that reimbursements to contributing nations could be jeopardized. Total costs to Dec 26 stood at 41.5 million with 34.2 million pledged, and several major powers have not contributed.
