Senate tax bill clears Finance Committee with relief provisions
The Senate Finance Committee approved a broad tax bill offering 9 billion dollars in annual relief for individuals and 6.5 billion in revenue gains from reforms, sending a measure already passed by the House toward conference. Savings vary by income, with sizable benefits for single filers and families, while reform provisions aim to curb tax abuses. The panel extended the 10 percent surtax at 5 percent through mid 1970, and retained much of the House reform package despite some changes.
