Decatur Georgia AP. Gary Krist, 24, convicted of the 500000 ransom kidnapping of Barbara Jane Mackle, was spared the death penalty and given a life sentence on the jury’s mercy recommendation. Mackle, a 20 year old Emory junior, was buried in a 2 by 2 by 3 foot box for three hours with food and water, a ventilation system, and a light that failed, while her father paid the ransom.
