City Council Approves Work Relief Program Plan

City Council backs a work relief project for able bodied relief workers and asks the mayor to implement it. Mayor Dillon supported trying such a program as used in other cities, while Welfare Commissioner Hodecker opposed citing few eligible relief cases. Health and Welfare Committee led the recommendation, with no dissent voiced in a voice vote. The council also approved closing the City Infirmary by Oct 1 when Superintendent William A Knobrock retires. Helge Kastad, former World Court president, dies at 78 in Oslo.
