Great Barrington Apartment Is Proposed
Ralph Hebert of Fairview Terrace proposed eight apartment units on a 5.8 acre Route 23 lot after previously seeking six houses. He argued Planning and Zoning boards misdirected him, and he then sought a variance under R-2 zoning which requires 1 acre lots for houses and does not permit apartments. The selectmen urged contacting both boards to set hearings for a variance, with the appeals board to decide after a public hearing if hardship and no substantial public detriment justify the action. Hebert was again advised to pursue the appeals board.
