Sheffield Selectmen approve deputy collector for excise tax
Sheffield Selectmen authorize Tax Collector William Shuts to appoint Patrolman James M. McGarry as deputy collector to enforce the new excise tax law effective July 17. A deputy must also be a special constable, though McGarry is a policeman and not required to be one. The measure aims to suspend vehicle registrations for unpaid taxes within 30 days of notice and broaden enforcement for back taxes.
