Live Trapping Planned To Halt Raccoon Damage
Berkshire farmers, hunters and the state Division of Fisheries and Game agreed on a live trapping program to curb raccoon damage to corn fields. The plan follows a Berkshire County League of Sportsmen's Clubs meeting at Lakeview Restaurant, with officials from DIG and local farm groups present. A related bill proposing out of season permits was declared dead, while DIG director Shepard said permits may be issued only in emergencies amid six eastern towns facing unexplained raccoon deaths.
