Strange Plays Highlight Wild Night in Baseball
Sports writer notes bizarre miscues and clutch plays across several games. Ed Brinkman’s double play escapes, Paul Blair’s leaping catch, and Rod Carew’s near walkoff are key moments amid a 1-0 Angels win and other late rallies. Blair drives in five for Baltimore, while Carew’s ninth inning blast is wiped away by Blair’s catch. Boston edges Oakland 2-1, New York tops Seattle 5-4, Cleveland outlasts Kansas City in 11, and Chicago blanks St Louis 6-0.
