Over-65 urged to file for Social Security benefits Berkshire County

Berkshire County residents age 65 or over who have not yet applied for Social Security should file claims immediately even if they do not plan to retire. Patrick J O Connor, director of the Social Security office at 74 North St, urged residents who applied last year and found they lost benefits by delaying. He said applying at 65 protects rights, as entitlement can be established before retirement and benefits start when retirement occurs. His office is open weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm.
