Governors Oppose ABM Plan in Two States
Governors Forrest H. Anderson of Montana and William L. Guy of North Dakota oppose the Safeguard antiballistic missile program. They warn short term economic gains do not justify long term risks and say their states would risk becoming nuclear junkyards. The debate ties to a Montana special election where Malmstrom AFB and Grand Forks AFB host proposed ABM sites. Anderson questions scientific assurances outside the military-industrial complex.
