Truman To Be 81 Tomorrow In Birthday Celebrations
Kansas City AP report says Harry S. Truman turns 81 on Saturday with a birthday gift of up to a million dollars for the Truman Project, funds raised by Tom L. Evans from thousands of letters. Evans notes gifts range from 7500 to 25 cents as supporters back the Truman Library Institute Board effort for scholarly study of the presidency and Truman era. The birthday luncheon will be informal, with speeches and songs, but shortened due to Truman's health after a fall last October. Truman continues daily work at his library office, escorted by Lt. Mike Westwood, while maintaining close contact with his daughter Margaret and three grandchildren via daily calls.
