House Unit UKs Cabinet Post on Urban Affairs
Washington administration wins a point as the House Government Operations Committee clears a bill to create a cabinet level Department of Housing and Urban Affairs by a 20 to 8 vote. Rep Ogden Reid of New York joins 19 Democrats in support while some Republicans privately expect passage. The plan would elevate the Housing and Home Finance Agency to a cabinet post and empower the chair to guide metropolitan policy and aid states cities and counties. Robert C Weaver, head of the agency, is eyed for the post, a job Kennedy suggested in 1960.

USW Won't Use 3 P.C. Guideline For Wage Talks

Abel, who defeated incumbent David J McDonald, urged negotiators to weigh higher living costs alongside productivity. Roland Rodman of APCO Ol Corp. argued major companies curb independents, with joint ownership abroad and domestically. Yarrington claimed proposed rules would aid small producers seeking market share.
