Hoosac Valley High Delay May Extend Board Tenure
Cheshire seven member regional School Committee faces possible one year extension of its term due to the construction workers strike delaying Hoosac Valley High School opening. The regionalization pact calls for an election of seven seats at the March town elections, but a January opening may slip to September 1970 or later, delaying March 1971 elections and leaving four Adams reps and three Cheshire committee members to be elected then. The seven holdovers, appointed in 1966 by Adams and Cheshire moderating boards, include Mervin Wineberg chair and Francis Sauve among others, with criticism from the Adams Taxpayers Association over electability versus appointment.
