Col Dettinger leads the BFRC Bio astronautics Forces Recovery Crew a 12 member team wearing red caps to Cape Kennedy. Their three doctor flight surgeons will ride with four helicopters during the Tuesday launch to provide immediate aid to astronauts in distress. They will enter the water without a parachute and use a floatable litter and medical kit to stabilize injuries and control bleeding until rescue. Dettinger recalled his water entry and reflected on his path from Harvard pre med to a medical career.
