Berkshire Symphony Review in Chapin Hall Williamstown
The Berkshire Community Symphony Orchestra closed its three concert series in Chapin Hall Williamstown under guest conductor Edgar Curtis replacing Irwin Shainman on sabbatical. Theo Olof of The Hague soloed Mozart A major concerto with strong technique though a thin tone sometimes under the accompaniment. Five dances from Purcell’s The Virtuous Wife felt repetitive. Haydn Symphony No. 98, linked to Salomon, featured a keyboard-led continuo and a notable harpsichord presence. Curtis used a harpsichord last night and the concertmaster Thomas King seized a lively interlude in the presto finale.
