Lodge Appears Easy Winner in Bay State Primary
In Massachusetts primary on April 28 Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge is favored after a strong New Hampshire show with 35.4 percent and all 14 GOP delegates. The state uses a nonbinding ballot with a single write-in space. Slate battles form over delegates led by Sen. Leverett Saltonstall and unpledged groups backing Goldwater and Maine senator Margaret Chase Smith, while Lodge’s campaign remains low-key.
