Eight Berkshire County youths traveled to Albany for mandatory racer inspections ahead of the July 12 Albany event on Colvin Road. Berkshire derby director James I. Kiley of Lenox noted no county sponsor this year, sending entrants to the Albany Derby with a Chevrolet donated prize of a $300 bond and trophy. The Albany Optimist Club sponsored breakfast as Ronald Meyers and David Kiley spoke. Akron finalists offer a $7,500 first prize and $30,000 in scholarship funds for national champions.
