Regional Board Deliberates Adams Hot Lunch Proposal

Cheshire Adams-Cheshire School Committee held a lengthy special meeting to discuss a pilot hot lunch program for Adams elementary students starting at Commercial Street School. They considered costs, staffing, and funding shares, approved tentative steps, and prepared a full cost rundown for a July follow up.

Egremont Colonial House Changes Hands

In Egremont a historic 17 acre 12 room Colonial on Route 71 north of North Egremont sold last week from Walter F Hugger to John R Willets of Long Island. The property once hosted Maj Josiah Webb Tavern toll gate and served as Egremont Alford post office 1817 1825 near the Green River. Wheeler Taylor Realty negotiated the sale. The Parker house on West Avenue also sold to John B Egee Jr of Southbury Conn.

Town plans insurance bids opened by Egremont Selectmen

The Egremont selectmen opened bids Monday for a proposed town wide insurance package covering North and South Egremont schools Town Hall the town garage the siren at the Men's Club the French Park chapel and overall town coverage excluding town vehicles Bids ranged from 636 to 962 with several others including 666 822 and 902 and one with a 1 percent year end dividend Turners asked C J Laramie to study coverage differences and he said he may not make a recommendation after evaluating the bids

Berkshire Farm Holds 83rd Commencement in Canaan

Seventy three graduates received diplomas at Berkshire Farm for Boys in Canaan N Y during the 83rd anniversary exercises. Guest speaker John Al Gleason of Greenwich Conn urged pride in heritage and personal potential, noting his longtime role with Boys Clubs of America. Awards were shared among students including the Wil liam Donald Twining athletic prize Roger Ciek and Cary Sutton for academics and citizenship.

Lee Two Boys Qualify For State Tourney

Lee youth Gerald Barbini and Eric Cadenelli qualified for the Massachusetts Junior golf tournament at Greenock Country Club. Barbini, 18, posted an 80 in the 15-17 bracket while Cadenelli, 12, shot 291 to enter the 11-14 division. They will join club pro Joseph Maley for regional qualifiers on July 17 in Andover and July 21 in Longmeadow.

Old Sander Body Offered for Sale in Middlefield

The Middlefield selectmen offer for sale a head sander body stored in town center. Anyone wishing to purchase it should contact the selectmen before next Monday evening. Michael Nevers appointed acting superintendent of streets as no full time applicant. George and Elizabeth Seefeld gain garage permit on Harry Pease Road. John Hobart granted permit for a family camp. Mrs Charles Guild, died Saturday in Adams at 91, formerly lived in Brattlefield and Adams before moving to Peru and then Adams. Their youngest son Gordon Guild still resides in Adams.

Car Destroyed In Middlefield By Runaway Fire

Middlefield fire crews were called to the home of Mrs. Avis Dowsey to extinguish a car fire. Maitland Dowsey had been working on the car and left it running. when he returned, the car was fully engulfed and destroyed.
