Natural Gas Powered Car Appears In New Jersey Demonstration
LNG Service of Lincroft New Jersey equips a Pontiac Bonneville with a liquefied natural gas tank that feeds the engine like gasoline but produces no air pollution. Willian D. Moore demonstrates the car in Pittsfield at Berkshire Gas Co. HQ. The tank holds 22 gallons liquid, about 600 times gas volume when compressed, enabling roughly 200 miles per fill. Car operates with a vaporizer to raise temperatures for the carburetor. mileage and per mile cost are similar to gasoline with no oil pollution. Further tests are planned in Pittsburgh with Yellow Cab converting six taxicabs. Moore foresees gas stations offering liquefied fuel within years as costs fall.

Connecticut Social Security Building Is Dedicated
TORRINGTON The official dedication of the new local Social Security building took place this afternoon. Congressman Thomas J. Meskill of the 6th District spoke. HARTFORD One of Gov John N Dempsey s major anti crime bills was killed in the Senate by his own lieutenant governor this week. The House approved legislation would have permitted wiretapping in cases involving gambling, narcotics and felonious crimes of violence. An 18 18 tie vote with several Democrats and Republicans crossing party lines was broken when Lt Gov Attilio Frassinale voted in opposition. NEW HAVEN The Board of Aldermen is supporting an attempt to gain more control over growth of tax exempt institutions in the city. It has voted to back a bill which would require such institutions as colleges and hospitals to get board approval before launching projects that would involve removing taxable property from the tax rolls. HARTFORD The Senate has rejected a measure that would have abolished the mandatory suspension of the license of a driver convicted of speeding. Sen Wallace Barnes who supported the proposed abolition said that there is no convincing evidence that highway safety has been any better since the suspension system went into effect in 1957.
